Otherness

Originating in the southernmost tip of South America, Argentinean Quartet Otherness have certainly had their work cut out making a mark in the western musical world. After all, Patagonia isn’t exactly a hair’s breadth away from the world’s most prestigious musical hotspots. Nonetheless, Martín Cativa (Vocals/Guitar,) Gonzalo Cativa (Vocals/Bass,) Adrián Bersais (Vocals/Keys,) and Pablito Gaggioni (Drums,) already have one foot in the door of the US scene, with gigs lined up in the Big Apple before the end of 09, and plans to head over to Europe in the near future, indicating the resolution and drive of this young collective.
With a sound harnessing elements from genres as disparate as indie rock, electro, and psychedelia, bound together by an irrepressible pop sensibility, it would be near impossible to criticize Otherness of appearing derivative or hackneyed, and indeed their strong sense of social conscience designates them as closer to the punk rock community’s ethos and ethics than any attempt to pigeonhole them as ‘world music’ would suggest. As their musical manifesto proclaims, the band stand for; no prejudices, no racism, no sexism, Passion, Humour and Ingenuity.
The band have just released a double A-sided single digitally, featuring the tracks ‘Adorable,’ and ‘Pill-Grim’ which sum up their highly singular template more succinctly than any written introduction could hope to; so head over to myspace for an introduction that truly does them justice. Those willing to venture into more avant-garde musical realms may well be in their element.
