Everything We Left Behind  - Pull Back and Go

review by Rob S  - added 08/02/2010

A prime example of the efficacy of musical hit and run tactics, melodic punk quartet Everything We Left Behind’s inaugural release ‘Pull Back and Go’ nails its colours to the mast at the outset; opener ‘Big Thanks to The Sun’ introducing the listener to the Bristol band’s irrepressibly energetic, frenetic yet tuneful line in contemporary punk in fine style, leaving them little time to catch their breath. Stating that their primary influences include the likes of NOFX, Set Your Goals and Captain Everything, the band, comprised of siblings Josh and Joel Rees on guitar and vocals along with school friends John Yard and Sam Cureton on drums and bass respectively, fire forth these seven tracks with a instrumental flair and conviction that many bands of their Ilk seem to lack, upbeat, sharp and quick paced, with an uncomplicated charm that tells of days spent happily smashing away in a cramped practice room somewhere. If You Me At Six, All Time Low and the new wave of polished transnational pop punk lack the grit and substance that you’re after but you still want melodies that you can hum along to, Everything We Left Behind might have just what you’re hankering after, the insidiously/gloriously (depending on your demeanour at the time of listening) catchy title track a prime example of this. Cool stuff.
