Dreadzone  - Eye on the Horizon

review by Mark  - added 06/04/2010

D'n'B, reggae, soft piano, gentle vocals and fast beats all pour into one another effortlessly. While the beats are simple, the vocals really do cause your spine to melt into the sofa. No cheap sounds here. That's not to say that some instantly enjoyable pop(ish) songs don't appear; 'Beyond A Rock' is lurking half way through the album, just waiting to abduct your attention. While some may bury their heads in their hands at the beginning of 'Gangster', it really is one of the many stand out tracks. Sub-genre names may blur into one pointless alphabetic mess in many people's heads, but there is a noticeable change in the D'n'B sound come 'Yeah Man'. Call it dub-step or whatever you like, it only adds an extra layer to Dreadzone's already diverse sound.

Eye On The Horizon will open up as each track passes like some kind of reggae/rock/ D'n'B flower-type thing (you try and find a better simile!). Engaging stuff, you can expect this one to set up camp in your CD player for many weeks.
