Asking Alexandria  - Live at Rock City, Nottingham

review by Dave Goodwin  - added 24/01/2012

Minus two as I climbed the steps to the entrance of a heaving Rock City. Last time I checked there were tickets but as an enthusiastic youth in front pointed out it was now sold out. And itwas Heaving.

This lot had turned up early doors to catch the supports, With One Last Breath from York, Salt Lake City's Chelsea Grin and from PhoenixArizona, Bless the Fall.

Arriving slightly earlier than scheduled Asking Alexandria made their way on to the stage. Bedlam ensued. Hungry for more of what they’d just consumed the crowd, united in their frenzy, went ballistic as the first chords rang out into the melee.

Not exactly my cup of tea, you understand, I was quietly surprised. Quiet I say because the only other noise I could decipher was my own brain rattling in its shell with the pounding of the bin next to me. Crikey... these guys are loud.

Behind Lead Singer Danny, are a hard working bunch lapping up the attention created by the eager crowd comprising of Ben and Cameron on Guitar, Sam on Bass and James feverishly thumping away at the back.

Delivering to the throng with ease most of the contents of the Album Reckless and Relentless, Dan prowls around the stage occasionally jumping up on to the box in front of him to gurn into the crowd. The crowd respond by throwing the odd surfer at him to which he asks for more to the obvious irritation of security in between.

Intent in getting the shots of all of them I’d lost him. Danny had disappeared from the stage. I realised where he was as he brushed past me to the crowds delight, leaping down the length of the pit demanding hi-fives from each ecstatic sweaty youngster.

Once back on stage, and the second track done he informs the crowd that its their first time here at Rock City. They are loving it. They scream for him to get the shirt off to which he declines by deflecting the demands to James on drums by changing the original question slightly to 'Hey, they want you to get your pants off!'. James also declines 'Maybe later...'.

Now the ladies are dangerous! The beer comes flying over from the back. Two eager lads come surfing from the back like a couple of giggling tykes on a huge Rock City bouncy castle. The security go to work and they come running through with the big cheesy grins. Uh-oh more beer...at least I think its beer! Time to vacate the pit and go somewhere a little safer.

After not being 'my cup of tea', I find these boys from across the pond are actually quite good.

Darn good in fact.
