Way Pristine  - Inverted/Converted

review by Rob S  - added 03/05/2010

Italian five piece Way Pristine (formerly BBJ) waste little time in pinning their influences to their sleeves; citing the likes of Smashing Pumpkins and Foo Fighters as among those feeding into their sound, the Genoa newcomers announce themselves to the world with ‘Inverted/Converted,’ a hooky, melodic alt-rock single that echoes both of the above’s commercially minded style and constructive skill, with a dash of well integrated electronic angst thrown into the mix for good measure. Though perhaps a little too polished for some, debatably even a little anaemic at times, ‘Inverted/Converted’ does embed itself in your memory banks like the very best of chart bothering rock, and as such is likely to appeal to the mainstream rock crowd, 30 Seconds To Mars’s veritable army of followers for example. We’ll see what comes of their full length’s release (their debut album, also dubbed ‘Inverted/Converted’ is set for release this June), but for now this is a decent release that relatively undemanding listeners should get a kick from.
