Meet Your Replacement  - Mini Album - This One's For You

review by Kirsty Wood  - added 24/09/2011

Meet Your Replacement offer mini-album ‘This One’s For You’ and describing themselves as ‘Energetic, uplifting punk with a contemporary hardcore/pop punk twist, filled with powerful gang vocals and melodic lead vocals’ shows how packed these songs are. First track ‘Tricks are for Kids’ offers a punk sound with a slight pop punk flair, whereas ‘Church Song’ adds a heavier tone and gang vocals, and whilst both try to keep a punk foundation the sense of a lack of direction is prominent. Although the band show they can switch from punk to pop punk, rawer vocals to sing-along gang chants, it doesn’t seem to combine together. However ‘Blood on our Hands’ and ‘This One’s For You’ both show more of a structure as they stray slightly from the punk sound. The former is the appealing catchy track of the mini-album and gives the feel that this is the type of sound the band are most comfortable with; the latter, rightly chosen as the title track, follows a similar tone with alluring vocals showing a larger range and at times dipping into slightly heavier territory.

For a mini-album ‘Meet Your Replacement’ pack a massive amount into just four tracks. The problem comes down to the sheer amount put into each track. As stated by the band themselves they cover an array of different sounds, this can however be slightly overwhelming, but when this is refined, there are some true moments of a great band.
