Slash - Victoria Hall - 24th July 2011

Slash at Victoria Hall July 24 2011 Pic by Gina RockpulseThey say a picture is worth a thousand words...and for Slash's 'homecoming' gig I'm going to let our camera say (nearly) it all.

But first, this was one of those gigs you felt genuinely lucky and proud to be at.  For Slash, it meant coming 'home' to the city where he spent 5 years of his childhood.

For the crowd, especially the local Stokie element, it was the chance to see their hero in their hometown for the first time ever.

And personally for me, it meant a homecoming of sorts too - my gig going life started at this very venue - Hawkwind in November 1985 to be precise, soon followed by Magnum, Marillion and later Thunder and Jethro Tull amongst others on this same stage.

There was more than one old-timer who once inside the main hall, took one look around and thought 'it's so much smaller than I remembered'.  A quaint, old school venue that holds just 1500 fans.

The perfect venue for the perfect rock'n'roll guitar hero, the perfect rock'n'roll singer in Myles Kennedy, the perfect performance - and it has to be said, the perfect rock'n'fn'roll crowd...you know who you are...and I hope that Gina's photos can help you relive the gig of a lifetime...

I wish I could have been there..unfortunately I have to work. ALL the time. So for once I had to base my hopes on Ebay or worse as the tickets were only available at cost price for a limited period when only ticket touts and those who can get a morning off are available. I tried..tried..tried..tried..I can't afford anything like the prices these tickets were commanding even until the day before..still I tried..but I missed out. I'm pretty elderly but not quite retired yet. I rang the venue I rang ticketmaster I rang ALL available outlets every single day from ticket launch until the event..I even vainly attempted to ask Ebay to stop this horrendous ticket tout fiasco which puts people like myself totally out of being able to afford to see beloved bands live. I can imagine it was bloody brilliant but I'm incensed that virtually the entire audience of this gig was made up of people who were either able to take the day off to get reasonably-priced tickets or those sad people with far more money than I have who bought their tickets from ticket touts. Oh well I'll be dead soon..and I still won't have seen Slash Live..who else cares eh
