FlyByNature  - EP

review by Amy Baker  - added 27/06/2011

“Inheriting the traditional alternative sounds of their 80’s heroes, Flybynature’s dynamic is mixing it together with classic pop sensibilities. Jayme’s baritone voice is balanced well with the funky bass and stop/start musical structures, but it wasn’t until the addition of synth player, Michael Ling, did Flybynature’s focus really become sharp. Their sound became less abstract, less blurred, less grainy and out of focus; more experimental, progressive. Flybynature have the distinct, edgy, forward-thinking sound that made Ivo Watts-Russell’s 4AD so influential, but the alchemy of sounds combined with their rigid sonic architecture is cathartic, raw and reflective, and reveals ever deeper musical and lyrical wonders with each listen. However, Flybynature reside under no one’s shadow; the band has carved their own sound that belongs to no one but those who make up collective”

FlyByNature is wonderful and refreshing. What more can I say? Well, I had a listen to their new EP and it is brilliant! ‘Fresh With Melody’ does exactly what it says on the tin. The vocals are different, almost graceful, and compliment the songs well. I love the different instruments throughout; they wouldn’t be complete without the experimental edge. The synths in ‘Money’ make it cool and fun with a good set of lyrics to go along with it. ‘Emotional Violence’ has to be the best of the bunch. It’s mellower than the others and is extremely inspiring and emotional. You can get their EP on itunes and I very much insist you go and listen. You won’t look back.
