Hailing from Manchester Long-Vue are four 14 year old guys who already with their rock sounds have started to make things happen with shows at venues like Manchester’s Academy 3. The quartet has just released their Wrongs And Rights EP containing original material and a couple of cover tracks to growing response and enthusiasm.
First thing to say is that with many demos the production is not always the strongest and does not always do justice to the material and this is the case here. Despite that small handicap the quality of the music does come through and actually reminds me of early releases of punk bands a while back when endeavour over quality often was better, though here we get both. Though Long-Vue class themselves as alternative rock there is distinct punk flavour to them at times especially on the opening two tracks ‘Round My Way’ and ‘You And The Things You Do’, the latter with an early Green Day flavour. The bass riffs are a strong standout feature on all tracks with its good deep throaty sound and a good contrast to the competent and controlled guitar sounds of Luke Gallagher on lead and the rhythm play of vocalist Cameron Hall. Even on the quiet ballad ‘Feeling Your Vibe’ Lomas stands out with his skilful vibes and maybe this could be a feature the band can use more in future compositions. Jack Clare on drums completes the foursome and rounds off a band that is pleasingly tight for those of such a young age. The two covers included are the Idlewild tracks ‘I’m A Message’ and ‘Goodnight’ and they do a neat job of covering them despite the varying quality of production. The vocals on all tracks is good and it is nice to see someone not going down the screamo or simply shouting route which many young new bands feel obliged to do.
The Wrongs And Rights EP is a promising release that showcases the qualities of Long-Vue and credit to the band for bringing them through what is as I say a low production value on the EP. Take this release for what it is, simply a demo and taster of things to come and with a bit more expertise on the recording side the justice the band and their songs deserve will show that here is a band worth watching closely.
