Rev78  - Album "Boy in the Blitz"

review by Kirsty Wood  - added 27/03/2011

“Boy in the Blitz” is the debut album from London quartet Rev78 and has promise to bring indie-rock back into the foreground. Coupling powerful vocals from singer Teddy Quick with prevailing riffs, when Rev78 get it right they create something huge, something that would sit comfortably in an arena. Tracks like first single and album opener “Killing Me” brings an enormous chorus and begs to be played again, contrasting perfectly with slower “Old Fashioned” and the almost eerie “Lullaby”, Rev78 show they can change their sound with ease.

The only problem comes from the tracks that act as the “middle ground”, songs like “Us Against Them All” which although highlights Quick’s vocal abilities lacks the commanding chorus it needs, whereas “Lucy” leaves behind the standout factor of the band making some songs feel more like fillers rather than favourites. But when the band are able to match their vocal and melodic talent together songs like the uplifting “Every Bone” are born, a true standout and placed perfectly to end the album on a high. Although not a record that can be played from start to finish, there’s no doubting the ability of this band and “Boy in the Blitz” certainly marks a very positive beginning to Rev78.

It was actually Rock Pulse that turned me onto Rev78 with a '9 out of 10 rating' for 'Us Against Them all' when it was 1st released as a single so if that's a filler i'm really looking forward to the album!
