Illness  - Album - Gifts from God

review by Mark  - added 15/06/2010

Excellent production really is overrated. Illness are a instrumental duo; and rather than aiming for the fast and heavy sounds of Big Business or the punishing and primal noise of Godflesh, Illness play a pretty straight forward game. The under-produced drums give 'Gifts From God' a mild punk edge. The guitar work is stage beyond entertaining. Whether it's the playful vibe in 'Mark In Spring' or the slightly darker mood of 'Dave Escapes' (yeah, the titles will bewilder all. 'Hail! Kitty'?).

Hardly a present from our otherworldly lord and master, but it's not something you'd shove in a pile with the unwanted jumpers and socks.
