Extreme O.D.  - This is the End

review by Rob S  - added 29/12/2009

There’s a hell of a lot to be said for subtlety and originality in the oversaturated heavy music scene of today, but sometimes such concerns seem secondary to the power of a ten tonne riff or a killer groove, and in such circumstances Stoke thrash/groove metal quartet Extreme O.D. may just have moshpit material to paint a demonic smile across your face. Like Lamb of God meeting Devildriver for twelve rounds of bare knuckle boxing the three tracks on the band’s new EP ‘This Is The End’ are gritty, indecorous and decidedly pissed off, with plenty of misanthropic lyrics and menacing growls to complement the crunching guitars that drive their sound forward. It’s nothing new, and some will criticise Extreme O.D. for this, but as an unpretentious slice of metal it’s largely on the money. The live show’s where it’ll really hot up though I suspect, so watch out for the band appearing near you in the future (they’re currently searching for a new vocalist, so if you think you’ve got what it takes, hit them up at their Myspace.)
