Paul Ortiz  - Album - At The Dream's Edge

review by Amy  - added 25/01/2010

Following on from his latest EP, Paul (AKA Chimp Spanner) has put together a wonderful album named ‘At The Dream’s Edge’. It’s been five years in the making and each song tells a story (even though there are no words). The album is experimental, it’s different, it has an edge – it starts off with ‘Galaxy Rise’, which is soft and melodic, then goes straight into ‘Supererogation’ that inspires and relaxes your senses. There are many different styles of music on the 13-track record, I like the mix, you don’t know what to expect from the next song, which keeps you interested throughout. ‘The Mirror’ is the fourth track, and kicks in with heavy guitars and a rockier edge – I can imagine the whole album being the soundtrack to a film. Each track is fairly long, and throughout each one there are changes in sound, and then they end with an entirely different feel to when they started. The Final track ‘All Good Things’ leaves you feeling fulfilled, like you’ve been on a journey throughout the album. Paul is a very talented musician and songwriter, and much hard work has gone into this record. Give it a listen – it’ll make you’re day!
