Kicking into gear on this, their second album, West London punk ‘n’ rollers Limozine waste no time in demonstrating exactly what a listener is in for; from the outset thrashing, slurring and ploughing their way from the speakers with unceremonious aplomb. Once the ramshackle, debauched antics of ‘You Da Boss’ and scuzzy, off key yet upbeat delivery of ‘El Presidente’ clatter into your eardrums you’ll know near-instantaneously if this is for you, a brash collision of Iggy Pop and Ramones, with touches of the Stones and Libertines plus many more thrown in for shits and giggles. It’s uncomplicated, unpretentious stuff that rejects ‘good taste’ and restraint in favour of quick gratification and sleazy thrills, perfect as the soundtrack to a seedy London strip club or backstreet bar in the midst of a knife fight, and as such is perhaps more suited to the live scene than your Mp3 player. Nevertheless, ‘Going to a Party’ and post-punk tinged ‘Berlin’ are enjoyably gritty, the former epitomising the band’s hard partying, twisted lyrical themes neatly, and providing some effective short term kicks. Competent but lacking substance, ‘Evil Love’ serves more as an introduction to a potentially great live band than as a work unto itself in my opinion, though short, snappy and venomous in the tradition of much great rock ‘n’ roll over the years. Worth a look.
