31/08/2012 - Bowling For Soup UK Tour Announced

Bowling For Soup is 18 years old and what better way to commemorate such an achievement than packing up the full-band and heading back to the UK, for what will be their 30th visit.

Having just completed a busy spring of touring the Middle East (entertaining the troops), a widely successful UK acoustic tour, and a tour of the North Eastern United States, BFS are delighted to announce a 15-date blitz of the UK. Support comes in the form of American counterparts The Dollyrots and Patent Pending.

… This is the ‘One Big Happy Tour’.

Already this summer fans have been treated to a brand new song, T.G.I.S (Thank God It’s Summer) which is featured on the Crappy Records, Have A Crappy Summer compilation.

Ahead of the tour, BFS will release a new album on their Brando/Queso Records label, entitled, One Big Happy. The album features BFS, The Dollyrots and Patent Pending. They will all take on a track belonging to each of the other bands as well as adding a brand new song of their own to the mix. The album will be closed with a Jaret Reddick (BFS) and Kelly Ogden (The Dollyrots) duet.

18 years after frontman Jaret Reddick started a humble little rock band in Denton, Texas, there is no sign of BFS letting-up. They remain as busy and creative as ever, with plans for the future, not least a potential live DVD capturing the fun and frolics of their Glasgow acoustic show earlier this year.

Sharp-eyed BFS fans will be quick to notice the lack of a London date on ‘The One Big Happy Tour’ and this grey cloud comes with an enormous silver lining as, BFS are beyond excited to be a part of The Warped Tour’s return to the UK at Alexandra Palace, London, November 10th, 2012. So make a day of it and witness a taste of the legendary tour on home soil.

24/06/2012 - Valhalla Smith Gig Preview

Valhalla SmithLeamington Spa based heavy groovers Valhalla Smith, who scored a healthy 7/10 review on Rockpulse with their 'All the Pieces of the Desert' EP last year, are resuming gigging duties on Friday 6th July at the Leamington Assembly.

Supporting one of the biggest tribute acts in the UK, Limehouse Lizzy, Valhalla Smith are looking forward to owning a stage which later this year will also see the likes of Lou Reed, Jesus Jones, Sham 69, The Enemy, Walter Trout, Magnum, Steve Harley and The Saw Doctors playing to packed houses.

Drummer Matt revealed to Rockpulse how the band are feeling about playing such a illustrious venue:

"We are all looking massively forward to the assembly gig. It's our hometown gig and our first show there. We shot the All the Pieces video there, and the final part of the day was spent shooting the live band shots on stage so it was cool to be up there but obviously minus the crowd and not actually playing live!!"

Asked about their plans for the future, Matt explained "The rest of the year will be spent trying to play as many shows as we can and carry on promoting the latest EP. We have also had radio airplay out in the States on several rock radio stations so we want to capitalise on that. We're aiming to get out to some more mainstream radio stations and magazines over here in the hope they pick up on what Valhalla Smith is doing and just really promote our asses off!! We are lucky these days that we have the power of the Internet to promote music instead of the old 80s tape trade scene, but it still is a lot of hard work to get it out there and for the right people to hear!!"

Tickets for Valhalla Smith, supporting Limehouse Lizzy on 6th July 2012 can be found at the Leamington Assembly website.

Long Day Fear have launched an certainly audacious, and perhaps crazy, bid to secure a number one single this Christmas with their epic song 'Weathered'.

In an attempt to stick two fingers up to The X Factor, LDF's Richie Tyler Woolgrove spoke on Facebook about their effort to replicate the success of a similar campaign which saw Rage Against The Machine grab the number one in 2009:

"Please please please people add as many of your friends as you can to get this snowballing...This is not a bullshit campaign like many others you may have seen in the past...This concerns a real song from a real British band to be proud of....Not any dumbed down all white in the wash X-Factor bollox.......lets get this moving people!!"

Liberate: this Hindi word couldn’t fit any better the Rock quintet from Las Vegas (USA) called Moksha. Having as influences Phish, Pink Floyd and The Grateful Dead, their music carries the sensuality from New Orleans’ Mardi Gras with a contagious grooving mix of Funk, Jazz and Prog Rock.

Moksha’s got started in 2007 having on its line up:Sam Lemos (vocals),John Heishman (vocals/bass),Brian Triola (vocals/keys), Jeremy Parks (guitar) and Patrick Gray (drums). Their energy and appeal during the live performances have contributed to the reputation gained and the several concerts played in 2010: a year that’s also presented the band with the participation of the guitar legend Brian Stolz (Bob Dylan and others) on Mammal or Machine’s recording process. As golden closure, Moksha was awarded as “Best Alternative Progressive Band” at the Vegas Rocks  Award Show.

Now, in 2011, Moksha is about to release on July 23rd their second full length: Here to Go. This album counted with the very special presence of the four time Grammy Award winning engineer/mixer: James “Bonzai” Caruso. As a final note to eager the audience’s curiosity, Moksha’s Brian Triola stated: “Overall, Here to Go seems to be a bit more cohesive,” and added, “being able to track together for every song was huge for us since the live dynamic is so important for the kind of music we make.”.

03/02/2011 - Paul soundtrack to be released on Feb 21st through Universal Music

In the comedy-adventure Paul, best friends Graeme Willy (SIMON PEGG of Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) and Clive Gollings (NICK FROST of Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) have saved for decades to take a sci-fi fan’s trip of a lifetime: a pilgrimage to America’s UFO heartland to track the legendary hot spots of extraterrestrial activity.  But when a close encounter with an alien named Paul derails the plans…their dream vacation turns into a road trip that will rock their universe forever.
Hunted by federal agents and the fanatical father of Ruth Buggs (KRISTEN WIIG of Date Night, Knocked Up), a young woman whom they have accidentally kidnapped, Graeme and Clive hatch a fumbling plan to return Paul to his mother ship in one piece.  And as two nerds fight to help save an awesome little green man, Paul might just take his fellow outcasts from misfits to intergalactic heroes.
Directed by GREG MOTTOLA (Superbad, Adventureland) and from a screenplay written by frequent collaborators Pegg & Frost, Paul co-stars an impressive comedic supporting lineup that includes JASON BATEMAN (Hancock), BILL HADER (Pineapple Express), BLYTHE DANNER (Little Fockers), JOE LO TRUGLIO (Role Models), JOHN CARROLL LYNCH (Get Smart), JANE LYNCH (television’s Glee), JEFFREY TAMBOR (television’s Arrested Development) and SIGOURNEY WEAVER (Avatar).
Of course no road movie is complete without a batch of great songs designed to keep the heart pumping, and Paul certainly delivers. In keeping with the well documented love of Sci-fi that both Pegg and Frost share, each track has some link to science fiction. It is a more than diverse collection of classics from a range of genres such as Punk (“Another Girl Another Planet” – The Only Ones), Soul (“Just The Two Of Us” – Bill Withers & Grover Washington Jr., “Got To Give It Up” - Marvin Gaye), Rock N’ Roll (“Flying Saucers Rock N Roll” - Bill Lee Riley), 70’s Pop / Rock (“Hello It’s Me” - Todd Rundgren, “Dancing In The Moonlight” - King Harvest, “All Over The World” - Elo), Reggae (“I Chase The Devil” – Max Romeo) and the 50’s Sci-Fi inspired “Planet Clare” by B52’s. Even Cantina Band’s “Syd Masters & The Swing Riders” is a rock-a-billy cover of the music playing in the bar on Tatooine in Star Wars: A New Hope – famously Simon Pegg’s favourite film.
The collection also features exerts from David Arnold’s original score. The complete track listing is as follows:
1.       PAUL OPENING TITLE  - David Arnold
3.       ROAD TRIP NUMBER 1 - David Arnold
5.       PASSPORT - David Arnold
6.       ROAD TRIP NUMBER 2 - David Arnold

Iron Maiden back ticket tout campaign – Iron Maiden have never been the biggest fans of the British Government yet they are backing a campaign by Sharon Hodgson, MP for Washington and Sunderland West.  Hodgson has drafted a Private Members Bill that will place a fine on anyone caught selling a ticket for more that 110% of its face value. On her website the MP states:

The fact of the matter is that a few people are making large amounts of money by exploiting the hard work of people involved in the live entertainment industry and the passion of fans, whilst contributing nothing to either.”

Iron Maiden manager Ron Smallwood has said that he is “delighted” that the bill has been drafted:

Something really has to be done about the plague of secondary ticketing... This is becoming a blight on anything and everything which involves people genuinely wishing to buy tickets at the intended price for popular events, be it music, sport or theatre."

Sheffield’s own Arctic Monkeys are also pledging their support for the campaign.

Matt has been quoted as saying “In the studio with Cherie Currie tomorrow almost done. Also did 4 days with an amazing singer with VR and have 9 killer demo tracks. Going to make the decision one way or another this week.”

The drummer has also been speaking to Noisecreep about the possibility of a new Velvet Revolver album “The goal now is to get right back together and make a call on the singer,” Matt says “Slash is going to finish out his tour through the beginning of the summer, and then hopefully by that time we’ll have a bunch of songs compiled. We all work on our own, and send each other ideas and work together when we got breaks. And maybe we’ll take a few more weeks to write, get in the studio and record an album by the end of the summer to get it out by the late part of 2011. I’m looking forward to that. We’ve all had enough time to go out and live other lives and have an adventure and organically come back as a unit that wants to do it again.” The plot thickens . . .

Drowning Pool defend “Bodies”, again – Following the Arizona shooting over the weekend, Drowning Pool have had to defend the lyrical content of their hit “Bodies” again. Jared Loughner, 22, was apprehended after six people were shot dead at the incident in Tucson. US congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was also fired at in the incident and is in a critical condition in hospital. The shooter had an unofficial video with the song playing while a masked man burned the American flag on his YouTube channel, so some news teams are debating about Loughner being influenced by the song.

In the statement, posted online at Drowningpool.com, the band said: "We were devastated this weekend to learn of the tragic events that occurred in Arizona and that our music has been misinterpreted. 'Bodies' was written about the brotherhood of the moshpit and was never about violence."

The band stated that they believe "someone to put out a video misinterpreting a song about a moshpit as fuel for a violent act shows just how sick they really are. We support those who do what they can to keep America safe. Our hearts go out to the victims and their families of this terrible tragedy".

This is not the first time Drowning Pool have been forced to defend "Bodies". The song has been used in the past as part of a method of torture used at Guantanamo Bay and has been listed as a favourite for soldiers before they engage in active duty.
