Miss Black America - Terminal
Review by Ellen
Seymor Glass - Vocals/ Guitar
Mat Anthony - Guitar
Ryan Banwell - Bass
Simon Chapple - Drums
It's a rare thing to come across whilst your listening to a cd where it
causes you to step back and think 'Man! this is good!'. Miss Black
America
(MBA) are one of the most fresh and impressive bands I've heard of yet.
Having had the support and help from the sadly departed legend that was
John
Peel, they have gradually been creeping up in and amongst the music
scene
playing here, there and everywhere. Currently now on their UK tour, the
band
have been working their socks off to create a whole load of new
sensational
material to take out on the road.
'Terminal' is the band's second album to be released, a cocktail of raw
guitar solos, frantic bass and drum performances, complete with a set
of
unique lyrics and distinctive vocals. The album's feel is fast,
provocative
and impulsive. With the majority of the tracks being like this it is a
suprising, but not unwelcome discovery when the three or four slower,
more
placid songs are introduced, found scattered about on the album.
The balance between electric and acoustic tracks works beautifully with
the
unusal and unmistakable vocals of lead singer Seymor Glass. The band's
genre
of music is wide spread, therefore appealing to a range of people as
there
are aspects of rock/punk/indie/emo intertwined. The talent of all four
members is plain to see, there is not one song on the album that you
would
want to skip past with tracks such as no. 2 'Dot Dot Dot', the
electricity
given off on this album could be dangerous!
Having been lucky enough to see the band play, I can confirm that they
are
just as good or even better live. Able to create the perfect atmosphere
that
sets everyone sky high, their on stage energy is entertaining and fun,
even
between songs Seymor's frontman presence always guarantees a laugh.
Since
recieving this cd I haven't been able to take it out of my player! If
you
want to hear something different, crazy, thats brimming with talent
then
this is the band your searching for. Totally amazing!
