Meri Everitt - Angular Velocity

Review by Ellen

After listening to the 4 track demo by Meri Everitt, "Angular Velocity," I have found it tricky to construct a decent review. Having tried to warm to the style of her music, I personally have had little success.

The first song starts off well and seems promising; the simple guitar strumming and drum beat imply it could be a catchy song. However it does set to disappoint after it fails to really take off. The vocals are forceless sounding and there is nothing very new or imaginative emerging in her voice, which unfortunately seems to leave Meri's material seeming a bit lifeless.

Although saying this I can see how someone may find the cd appealing. If you enjoy guitar-driven female singer/songwriter music this may be your bag, and I'd recommend it to you with its gentle vocals and angsty lyrics. If this is not your preferred style, like myself, then I suggest looking elsewhere as it sadly did not win me over.

I give full credit to Meri Everitt as she has talent, but unfortunately expresses herself in what is perhaps not the best way she could. For example, in one of the songs there is a line from the chorus that states 'to live in this world, I need a record deal', which implies that she is somewhat desperate, suggesting she is not really doing it for the music, but more for the joys that come along once getting signed! I know that is not the desired interpretation, but that is how i see it.
