Lo - Demo

Review by Cherry

Tracklisting:

1. Connotation / Undertone
2. Hit Erase
3. Santa Ponsa

Lo is an alternative rock act based in South East England, created by singer/songwriter Gary Munday and sleaze-guitarist/producer Richard J.Lock in late 2005.

The 3 songs on this demo are all taken from their ‘Sunset Drunk’ and ‘Midnight Fables’ E.Ps.

For a demo, this is pretty impressive. The guitar intro to Connotation / Undertone has you hooked immediately, always a good sign of things to come. With it’s catchy melodies and creative lyrics, this song is a fresh burst of much needed energy amongst todays music scene.

Hit Erase is completely different from Connotation / Undertone, it’s strong bass line throughout is something that will be branded onto your brains for weeks to come. Heavier lyrics in the chorus flow smoothly over the powerful backing of guitars and this band are pushed into a genre all of their own.

Santa Ponsa begins with an acoustic introduction, not something I was quite expecting, but a pleasant surprise. The lyrics are much softer on this song and I believe the voice of Gary’s 12 year old sister Zoë makes this song much more interesting. This is the sort of song you would imagine listening to on a Hawaiian island, it’s light, catchy and relaxed.

The different sounds of this band are something I haven’t seen from a band before. I really enjoyed listening to this Demo from Lo and I will definitely be checking out the rest of the songs on ‘Midnight Fables’ and ‘Sunset Drunk.’

If the lyrics were a little more polished, I think we would have a professional CD on our hands and a band set to make it in the big time.
