LA based 5 piece Never Heard of It were recently in the UK to support JWR favourites Bowling for Soup (along with Birmingham's best, Farse), and I, along with JWR Suzi, got a chance to have a quick interview with front man DJ before their show in Wolverhampton.
Suzi: You're touring with Bowling for Soup and Farse at the moment, how are you finding it? Is everyone being nice to you?
Dude, it's been the best tour ever! Farse is the coolest band I think we've ever met and Bowling for Soup are like our best friends, we've been touring with them for the past 5 months. It's been really cool.
Jess: Have you got any funny stories you could tell us?
Way too many funny stories! Bowling for Soup drink more than anyone, you know? So they've taught us over the last 5 months how to drink as much as them and there's been a lot of pissing in bunks and throwing up in places and those kind of things, thanks to them.
Suzi: Have any of you been to the UK before?
No, this is our first time.
Jess: What do you think of it?
It's awesome, it's better than anything we ever expected, for sure.
Jess and Suzi (at the same time): Apart from the weather.
Apart from the weather, yeah. This is all I bought, this thin jacket. I didn't know it would be this freaking cold!
Jess: How was the Warped Tour?
The Warped Tour was really cool, I think it's the most fun tour but it's the most tiring tour, too, because it's all day. You've got to be ready from like 8 in the morning to 10 at night, you know? Like all day long. I like normal club venues better where you don't have to get there and do sound check until about 4 or 5, then play the show and that's it.
Jess: How do you deal with being on the road for so long, then? Do you get on each other's nerves?
We're all like really good friends, so I think that helps, and we all get along, it's good fun.
Suzi: What do you enjoy most about being in a band?
Just getting to tour and travel and see different cities and states and countries. Getting to play different venues and being able to meet new people every night. There's nothing I'd rather be doing!
Suzi: What do you enjoy least about being in a band?
Not getting to see my family as much. Sometimes we'll go through California and we'll have all this stuff to do. Like last time we had to go to Hollywood for something, then we had recording and stuff, and I didn't get to see my parents at all, even though we passed through. So that kinda sucks.
Jess: What do you usually do after a gig?
I usually go out partying, go to a bar or something. Around here we've been walking round the cities and checking things out.
Jess: Do you find fans follow you around afterwards?
Yeah, sometimes, but it's cool. We encourage it, you know? We like hanging out with our fans.
Jess: What kind of bands are you listening to at the moment?
We're listening to things like Poison the Well, we each listen to a lot of different things. Recently we've been listening to The Darkness a lot, they're really cool. Then we listen to Finch and Alkaline Trio, those are some of my favourites.
Suzi: Do you have anything planned for after this tour?
After this tour I'm going to Italy for like 2 weeks and the other guys are going to Amsterdam and France, and they're also going to come to Italy for a few days. Then we're going to go home and start recording and we'll probably go back out on tour in January and then head back out here soon.
Jess: So you'll be coming to the UK again?
Yeah, we're definitely planning on it.
Jess: Do you want to say anything else to our readers?
To your readers? I love you all, UK rocks, I can't wait to come back!
Thanks a lot to DJ for taking the time out for the interview, as nothing was pre-arranged. The whole band were great and really warmed up the audience during their set. If you get a chance, make sure you go and see this band and you can find out more information on their site,www.neverheardofit.com.
