 The Maine

Interview by Danni with John on 20 September 2008

Hows the UK tour going so far?

It’s been awesome so far, I think every show’s sold out and the kids have been pretty responsive so it’s pretty cool.

So, you haven’t been here before and you don’t have a record out here either, have kids been singing along despite this?

Yeah, surprisingly! Mostly to the newer stuff just because I think that’s what they’ve been hearing on the MySpace.

Is the UK as you expected it to be, did you have any misconceptions of what it would be like on this side of the pond?

– I really had no idea about what it would be like over here just because I‘ve never even been here for a vacation or anything. I like it a lot! I don’t know if I could live here yet, but I’ll come back over and decide next time!

Is the whole we-drive-on-the-other-side-of-the-road thing trippin’ you out at all?

Yeah! [laughs]

Has anyone nearly been hit trying to crossing the road yet?

Actually Pat (Kirch, Drums) got hit by a car the other night.

[Sees Danni’s expression turn to ? :O]

No! Not like hit, hit!!!!

[Danni breathes out again..]

But it hit him and everybody looked at him and he was like ‘Erm, I’m alright!’

Where was that?

In London, But it’s like, it’s a trip, I don’t know which way to look yet so I’m still tryin’a figure it out!

So, you had a day off in London a couple of days back, what did you get up to? Do any sight-seeing?

We just walked down town and we ate at the nicest Pizza Hut we’ve ever eaten at!

Yeah, our Pizza Huts are awesome!

Yeah, we also just took pictures and stuff!

[John’s arm is broken and in a cast] If you don’t mind me asking, what exactly did you do to your arm to get it put in a cast?

Well, when we were on your on the ‘Soundtrack Of Your Summer’ tour [a state side summer long tour that featured Good Charlotte, Boys Like Girls and Metro Station as well as The Maine] I think it was in Indianapolis, I like, fell down some stairs behind the dressing room so, it wasn’t good!

Definitely not good!, Now, I’ve heard The Maine likes to party before shows? Can you explain what your pre-show ritual is?

You kinda have to see it, its gonna be weird me explaining it but we stand in a circle and just, chant [precisely ‘we like to party, we like, we like to party’ while jumping around (think similar to vengaboys hit, haha)] and just ..

Go a little bit crazy?

Yeah, stupid stuff [laughs]

I’m surprised that you guys don’t have a music video yet, are there plans to make one or are you leaving it cool for a bit?

Yeah, yeah, no we’re just in the final processes of figuring out what we wanna do in the video and I think we are gonna record it October 1st or something. So basically, right when we get home.

Which song will it be for?

It’s going to be for Everything I Ask For.

Cool! So that song is on your debut album ‘Can’t Stop Won’t Stop’ which is only available in the UK through iTunes at the moment, are there any plans to shelve it here?

Yeah! Yeah I just don’t know when yet ‘cos we’re still figuring everything out with the video and stuff so we kinda wanna have everything ready and prepared so people can get to access all of our stuff easier here.

This is the penultimate date of the tour, it wraps up tomorrow in Portsmouth, What are The Maine’s plans for the rest of 2008?

Well right now, we’re going, well, we have two more shows and then we’re going home and doing the video and then we’re gonna go on tour with All Time Low, Mayday Parade and Every Avenue for like 2 months. Then I think we’ll be back here in February and I don’t think we have anything after that yet. But we’ll be touring.

Even though you haven’t had much internet access over here you and the guys have still been posting blog updates on your pages, Do you think its important to keep in touch with the fans, let them know what’s going on and what the band’s upto?

Yeah, yeah, totally! I think that’s one of the main reasons people know of us and our songs just because we’re pretty into making it all up to date and making it seem like everybody’s a part of it.

One last question, do you have any plans to pay the UK another visit anytime soon?

Yeah! Hopefully February! We don’t know who with yet but there’s a chunk of time that we have off and it makes more sense that we come over...

Sweet! Well that’s all, Thanks for taking the time out to talk to us and catch you guys February sometime!

No worries, Yeah, Thank you!
