 The Skinks

Interview by Danni with Crash on 05 March 2009

Firstly, Can you state who everyone is in The Skink’s and what role they play in the band?

Jamie plays guitar, Lee plays guitar and sings and I’m Crash and I play drums. Our bassist of 9 years has recently emigrated to Tennessee so we currently have a “roaming“ player for gigs while Jamie and Lee record Bass.

How did you guys meet and how long have the band been together?

Jamie started the band 9 years ago playing Green Day covers and the like, more members joined and we started writing, recording and performing original material.

How was the band’s name chosen?

The Kinks had already been taken so this was the next best thing.

How would you describe The Skink’s sound?

It’s a mixed bag or “eclectic”. It’s Rock music with popular melodies and a commercial feel.

What are the band’s main musical influences?

We all have slightly different tastes and influences. The main ones being: Foo Fighters, Green Day, Oasis, Metallica and Therapy.

Who takes on song writing/lyrical duty in the band or is it shared out?

Song writing’s shared between Jamie & Lee. Jamie will normally come up with a song and melody and Lee puts lyrics to it (and normally changes the melody and the structure!)

What does the band have in store for everyone this year?

We have a 12 song LP out in spring 2009! Its taken 14 months in the making so should be great. We intend on gigging this as much as possible mainly around South Yorkshire.

In a dream gig situation, who would be in the line-up alongside The Skinks and what venue would you be playing?

Selling out Sheffield Arena would be amazing, seen so many fantastic bands play there over the years. Being supported by the Foo’s, that would be cool.

What was the last album you listened to? What did you make of it?

It was Oasis’s new album, Dig Out Your Soul. I love Oasis but there aren’t enough top quality songs on it for my liking. The album didn’t inspire me like ‘Definitely Maybe’ or ‘Morning Glory’.

How can people find out more about your band and keep up to date with what’s going on with the band?

We have a few websites; www.theskinks.com & www.myspace.com/theskinksrock where there are demos that can be downloaded, pictures, gig dates, etc. There are videos of us on YouTube and a fan page on Facebook. Email mailto:contact@theskinks.com for booking.

Anything else you’d like to say?

If you like our songs go and buy them, or get in touch! Thanks to Rock Pulse!
