Let’s get the most obvious question out of the way – how did you get the awesome name Kamasupazundown’?!!
We used to be called Project 25 but felt we needed to change our name to something more unique and hopefully eye-catching. The actual name was created by the singer Mark Pitts when he took the three words "Karma", "Super" and "Sundown" and melded them into one....with a few letter changes for good measure.
Who would you say are your biggest musical influences?
Our musical influences range from the old 70's groove masters Led Zepplin, David Bowie and Hendrix through to the more modern sounds of Queens of the Stoneage, Clutch and Stone Temple Pilots.
Do you get to gig as often as you would like?
No we don't unfortunately, but that's mainly down to work commintments and other projects, but we are looking to gig a lot more over the coming year to promote our music and our album.
I’m guessing One Minute Silence’ was self financed – how was that experience for you?
We originally concieved the idea of self producing the album with our former guitarist (Ray Davies - Black Tamanous) in 2010 as we had enough material to record. We didn't go into a proffesional studio to record as the drummer (Steve Rowlands) and Ray Davies both had home studios and had experience and knowledge in the recording process. We saved a lot of money doing it this way but it took a little longer as we knew we had the time and flexibility to record the way we wanted.
…and have you any plans for another album?
Yes, we already have about half a dozen songs written and ready to put down and are still currently writing more tunes to put forward. We are very excited about how the new tunes are going to sound and the recording process should be smoother this time as we know how we want the new album to sound.
What’s your opinion on music streaming services such as Spotify?
We think it's a great idea because it helps independent labels and artists get thier music across to a whole new audience. Without this assistance from internet based sites and applications, it would be a lot harder for them to break through and gain the exposure.
What’s your favourite song to play live, and why?
MARK (Vocals): My favourite track to play live is "Seven to One" because of it's bouncy feel and killer chorus.
DAVE (Guitar) : One of my favourite tracks is "Down in the Underground" as it reminds me of Soundgarden.....plus I get to play a top notch solo during it!
OWAIN (Bass) : "Boy From Nowhere" is mine becauseit's a good driving rock tune!
STEVE (Drums / B. Vocals) : My track is "Chinchilla". We changed the way we play it live and the energy we get when we all kick into the chorus always gets me bouncing, and watching the audience shake thier things to it gets me even more bouncy!
What plans does Kamasupazundown have for the future?
Completing the second album and promoting it in 2012, playing festivals during the summer and hopefully building a bigger fanbase for our music
Where was your last gig – how did it go – and where’s your next one?!
Our last gig was in The Duke in Neath, South Wales and was awesome! It's always a great place to play and hasn't changed over the last 20 years! ...although the tree growing out of the roof has now gone. We've recently just played a series of gigs and are currently booking new dates as we write this. Our next confirmed gig is in The Square, Ammanford, South Wales on the 18th November. So everyone come down and show your support for Kamasupazundown.....there's a free hug for you all....just ask for Dave!!
