 The Chariot

Interview by Ana Leary with Josh Scogin on 04 March 2011

Hello Rockpulsers !! Here goes the interview with another Metalcore band from the USA: The Chariot. They're on tour with My Children My Bride and on the way to the UK !!

AL:You’ve been around since 2003 making an explosive kind of Hardcore filled of innovations. How’s the experience of having your debut album “Everything is Alive, Everything is Breathing, Nothing is Dead and Nothing is Bleeding” recorded live?JS:

JS:I love that album.  It was something that we really stuck to our guns on and didn't sway for anyone.  I like that.

AL: The Chariot has been consolidated as a band with “The Fiancée” album. Have you ever imagined such thing could happen this fast? What you consider the main reason for such achievement?

JS:The honest answer is that I have no idea.  The other answer is that I hope maybe just because everything we do is honest.  We are not trying to be anything that we aren't.  That is why the recordings have a little rawness, we are not the tightest band in the world and we don't fake like we are on the records.

AL:During “The Fiancée” touring, The Chariot has had several replacements. How these replacements have contributed to the intensive touring you’re having? What source of difficulties you’d had to endure?

JS:Every change thus far, has been for the better, I believe.  But they have always been very natural, never auditions or anything.  It has always just been friends of ours that (for the most part) already know our songs and such.  Very casual and un-stressful in every way.

AL: In 2009, “Wars and Rumors of Wars” has been released and The Chariot had been at Billboard’s 200. The album also got some positive critics too. Was it intentional to have such a confliction title to discuss the ones people hold inside?

JS:For sure, I really wanted something that would create thinking and invite ponder.

AL: Having “Long Live” released later in 2010 under the Good Fight Music, you’re under a new record company and back working with Matt Goldman who’s worked previously on the Chariot’s previous albums . Can you tell you a little about this moment? How’s been the experience of working with Matt again?

JS:Yeah Matt's everything The Chariot has ever done.  He just thinks like we do, his goals are the same as our goals.  He likes everything to be actually performed by humans, not pro tools COPY/PASTED........that is what we really love about him.  That is hard to find these days because it is much more convenient to just play the riff once and COPY/PASTE it all across the song.  Same with drums and everything else.  That just doesn't feel right to us.  To each his own.

AL: From “Everything is Alive, Everything is Breathing, Nothing is Dead and Nothing is Bleeding” to “Long Live” how you consider The Chariot has improved as a band? Any new skills gained?

JS:It is still the same concept at play, we write what we want to listen to.  We don't write according to the labels advice nor the producer, we do what we want to do.  So far it seems to have done us well.  We are obviously better musicians and we have grown a lot since those days but we still want it raw and real and we still have A.D.D. enough to keep things from getting too monotonous.

AL:Now in March you’re about to get on the road with My Children My Bride. Can you tell us a little about how this invitation happened? Was it an idea from your producer?

JS:We are all good friends and have known them for a long time so I guess it was inevitable.  We are actually on tour with them right now in the States, good dudes.

AL:What expectations you hold for the “Long Live” tour? Are you ready to the UK audience? Could you leave a message to our readers?

JS: We absolutely love the UK, so we are more then excited.  I hope to see everyone there.  Cheers.

Thanks a lot for Mr. AT and Josh Scogin for making this interview possible !! - Ana Leary
