Oxford based band Dive Dive have been busy recently; recording their first album, supporting bands like Funeral For a Friend and Franz Ferdinand, and getting great reviews all over the place. With their debut single 'Good Show' coming out in the next couple of months, I got the chance to ask Ben and Tarrant from the band some questions. Read on to find out about their influences, their album plans and what they describe as being "a bare knuckled ride to Dante's ninth ring with a rocket up your arse"!
What has the band been up to recently?
Signing to Diablo Music at Christmas, recording the first album, shooting the video for the first single "Good Show", and playing as many shows as we've been able to fit in around all this stuff.
How would you describe your music to someone who hasn't heard you before?
Fast and raw: like a bare knuckled ride to Dante's ninth ring with a rocket up your arse.
Your single 'Good Show' is released soon on Diablo, how did the signing to Diablo come about?
Someone from MTV saw us play and put us in touch. It just went from there really.
What would you say to convince someone to buy your single?
Buy our single or die.
Have you currently got any plans for an album? If so, what stage are you at with writing or recording?
The first album's complete and ready to go. The second is being written at the moment.
What kind of music did you grow up listening to? Would you say there were any particular bands or artists who have influenced you musically?
That dude with the banjo in Deliverance was pretty cool. He inspired some knock-up hoe downs and at least an instrumental or two. Other than that the main influences on the band are just from living - you know, getting pissed on by people (figuratively speaking!) and that sort of thing.
What kind of music are you into at the moment? What are some of your current favourite bands or artists?
We don't really listen to much recorded music anymore. We're always out at shows so most of our music listening is done in the live vein. Bands like Jetplane Landing, Reuben, This Ain't Vegas, Fighting with Wire, are amazing. They're still pretty underground at the moment but I doubt that'll last long.
What's the best advice you've ever been given?
Have another one to set the first one off.
If you had to live you life using one motto or slogan, what would it be?
Have another one to set the second one off.
What have you got planned for the rest of this year?
The first single from the album comes out on 18th October and we'll be touring pretty heavily to promote that. Apart from that, getting ready for the release of the first album in the new year and starting to put the second one together.
Finally, is there anything else you'd like to add or promote?
We'd like to promote Jetplane Landing, Reuben, This Ain't Vegas, and Fighting With Wire. Go and imbibe their awesome power.
Thanks a lot to Ben and Tarrant for answering my questions! You can find out more about the band by visiting their official site, www.divedive.co.uk.
