 Feable Weiner

Interview by Julz with Atom, Josh, Ben on 09 October 2004

Our guest interviewer Julz got the chance to interview Josh, Atom and Ben from Feable Weiner while they were over here supporting Bowling for Soup. Read on to find out about horrible food, George Michael, and used condoms!

What do you think of the UK in general? What did you think of the shows and crowds here etc?

Josh: So far we’ve been here a little over a week, and every show that we’ve played, and everyone that we’ve met have been extremely nice to us and we met a lot of cool people that we never would have met if we hadn’t come over here.
Atom: yeah, everyone is showing us outstanding support
Ben: Yeah I love the UK myself
Josh: None of us have ever been to UK until now, until this tour
Ben: Yeah, most of us haven’t been outside the US until now
Josh: You have pretty ladies here too

Do you get really crazy fans here or do you get more of them in the US because they know you better?

Atom: the craziest fans we’ve found come from here. They’re Insane, and uh it’s kind of a mob experience, after we do our shows, and signings, we love it! We encourage it.

What do they do for you consider them crazier?

Josh: I think it’s that, in the US it’s a little bit different, the shows are a little bit different, the people are a little different, and in the US it’s sort of like.
Atom: yeah, the fans in the US take us for granted.
Josh: Yeah, the attitude is sort of, been there done that with the US fans, even though we have been working hard the past few years and worked up a fan base in the US. But here it’s been really different, people are more accepting, easier to talk to.
Atom: people are willing to have a good time, willing to shake the romp.
Josh: It’s all about fun.

Are you planning to come back to the UK sometime?

Josh: Yeah, we’re actually planning to come back next year, in February.

On a solo tour or support act again?

Atom: as a support band, yeah.

I’m from Russia myself, I was just wondering would you ever consider going to Russia for a show?

Whole band: that’d be great yeah,
Atom: yeah, well it’s wherever the headlining bands will take us actually, mostly because we are a newer band yeah, we would definitely not rule that out.
Josh: We’d go anywhere that we could take our guitars and play for people.

How long have you been together?

Josh: Um, we um… about 4 and a half years now. We started as just atom and I on guitars, and it was more of a side project to another band, and just having a bit of fun, it was more of doing it for ourselves, and making ourselves laugh,
Atom: and through that we found people really were responding to that and recording our shows, when we had never even recorded one song, they knew all the words, when we just barely knew the words, because we had just written them, we only had a handful of songs, and from that, came the band.
Josh: Yeah, people were begging us to put a band together, and play big shows, so that’s what we did. And now we're huge fucking rock stars.

Where did the name Feable Weiner Originate From?

Josh: Actually Ringo Star said it in a press conference one time,
Atom: in 1964 , and we thought that was hilarious, I think he was actually talking about little Richard and their fascination with him. We also have a fascination with him, one of the pioneers of rock and roll as we know it.

So what kind of bands inspire you and influence your music?

Atom: I’d have to say, Weezer, Rock it from crypts, nerfherder,
Josh: All of the good oldies music, you know that we didn’t grow up listening to but we are now.

What would be your best record you ever bought?

Josh: Superdrag , Headtrip in every teen.
Rest of band: yeah.
Atom: yeah, right at the top of my list too.
Josh: My favourite record is from a band that is from our hometown , and their name is Slack (www.slack.20fr.com/), and the record is called… uhhh….. , um, everything. NO, nothing is easy enough. Yeah that’s it. Not many people know about them, but they’re a cool band.

What would be your most embarrassing record you ever bought?

Ben: George Michael.
Atom: Aqua? That’s pretty good, actually I bought that at a pawn store.. 2 dollars. That’s not that bad right?
Atom: Ill admit to buying, hammer don’t hurtem.
Josh: OH , that’s not bad… that’s Badass!
Atom: oh ok then cancel that out…

What was the strangest thing that you ever got thrown on stage at a gig?

Josh: Umm…
Josh: We got like, prosthetic limbs thrown on stage,
Atom: yeah that’s pretty strange… , used condoms, .. Whatever really..
Josh: Underwear and stuff,

Do you keep the stuff that’s thrown on stage?

Josh: Actually atom um.
Atom: Yeah! I actually have a pocket full of used condoms right here!
Josh: Someone actually threw a watch on stage the other night.
Josh: And atoms got it on
Atom: yeah!, I needed a watch, Versace watch.

How do you find touring with Bowling For Soup and The Feds?

Atom: its a great experience.,
Josh: It Sucks.
Atom: we all have our different views…
Josh: I’m joking, it's great, they’ve helped us a lot, and their fans can be made easily into our fans, so that’s good.

Where do you stay on tour, do you stay in hotels or on the bus?

Ben: yeah we just stay on the bus.
Atom: since we are big rock stars now…
Josh: Yeah, we don’t get hotel rooms, we each get our own hotels, we like our space.
Atom: each get our own tour bus etc, you know...

Is the food here different from the US?

Josh: The food is Horrible!
Ben: the food here is really bland compared to America,
Josh: Yeah, not enough spices in there,

Do you not just go to McDonalds or whatever?

Josh: Yeah even McDonalds, it’s not the same, it’s not as good. , it’s not that different, but it’s just not as good.. Not as spicy.

Atom's birthday was a couple of days ago, how did you celebrate?

Atom: They got me a cake, the way they organised it was they organised for the cake to be brought on stage during one of our songs, and I had no idea what was going on, I was still trying to sing the song, get the snaps going with the crowd, I turn around, and there’s a cake, bowling for soup on stage, all the guys looking at me, and they got 1500 people to sing happy birthday to me, so its quite a memorable birthday for me.
Atom: I’m officially 16.
