The Suzukis
Saturday, 16 July 2011 – Roadhouse, Manchester
According to The Guardian - that purveyor of all things 'alt' haha - "Their "primal aggression" and "visceral power", and claims that the Suzukis are returning to rock's source to invoke the invigorating energy of the Stooges, Sex Pistols, Nirvana and all those other bands whose purpose it was to get rock back on track"...
For me they sound like Hawkwind mixed with the Sex Pistols ('Are You Happy With Yourself?'). Which, actually, make what I've heard so far pretty damn awesome!
The band is releasing their debut album on the 11th of July, 2011 - can't wait.

OH NO OH MY
Oh No Oh My consists of multi-instrumentalists Daniel Hoxmeier, Joel Calvin, Greg Barkley, and Tim Regan. The members of Oh No Oh My started playing music when they were fourteen years old, and all of them play at least three different instruments. Daniel (Guitars, Banjos, Accordions, Keys, Wurlitzers, Tambourines, Hand Claps, Percussion, Sampling, Programming) and Joel Calvin (Drums, Keys, Hand Claps, Sampler, Tambourines, Bells, Shakers) were best friends growing up.
Oh No Oh My is set to release a new collection of 12 brand new songs called "People Problems". "Brains" / "Walking Into Me" is the first double single : it's loud, it's quiet, it's short, it's long. It's all these things and more. As Pitchfork quite rightly said - "The band's unique charisma should garner results in your heart's blog search machine".

THE WAR ON DRUGS + FRENCH KISSING
With influences ranging from Dylan and CCR, to Suicide and Silver Apples, Adam Granduciel joins a distinct set of songwriters with his own brand of timeless musicianship. Layered with popping ecstatic guitars, with drums sitting firmly and a voice that is urgent and in control, it’s like “I’m On Fire”-era Springsteen with 80s singalong qualities while still being firmly planted in the present. The War On Drugs’ new EP Future Weather comes out October 26 in the US (early 2011 in the U.K.), on Secretly Canadian Records.
“Future Weather is one to get lost in and at times, it’s utterly joyous”. (The Line Of Best Fit)
Pitchfork : 7.6 ( “Future Weather also takes a trip down a lyrically overcast road, littered with regret, isolation, and loss.”)

Die So Fluid + Killing For Company
@ Stereo, York
Die So Fluid are the modern incarnation of a ‘power trio’. Their sonic identity possesses the muscle of metal, the angular cheekbones of post-punk and the bittersweet heart of grunge. They are part of a new generation of rock bands who chose to turn down signing a traditional record deal and embrace the changes the internet has made to the industry by stripping record companies of their distribution and promotion monopolies. The band retain ownership of all their recordings and copyright of all compositions.

SUUNS
Montreal's Suuns possess a rare trait in rock music: restraint. They use it like an instrument, which makes their debut full-length Zeroes QC as unsettling as it is wonderfully exasperating. Suuns were born during the summer of 2006 when vocalist/guitarist Ben Shemie and guitarist/bassist Joe Yarmush got together to make some beats which quickly evolved into a few songs. The duo were soon joined by drummer Liam O'Neill and bassist/keyboardist Max Henry to complete the line-up.
Last year, Suuns entered Breakglass Studios with Jace Lasek of the Besnard Lakes co-producing and engineering, and recorded their first album. The group wanted to create something that couldn't be pigeonholed as simply indie rock. The resulting Zeroes QC is a warm yet dark, propulsive collusion of pop, post-punk and experimental rock — one that allows the group to musically shapeshift without losing any of the sense of tension and unease that runs throughout the record. All of this amounts to a great first album — one that is as timeless as it is thrillingly modern.

The Talks + support
@ Stereo, York
With the stench of the fishing industry, looming over what was voted the “grimmest place to live in the UK”, an inspiring scene was bustling under the movement of deprived musicians, at the end of the M62, where nothing, ever happens. Out of this highly underrated and undiscovered music scene, The Talks emerged in the summer of 2006. Since then, they have been at the forefront of the cities music scene, selling out shows with a unique bass driven, reggae/punk influenced sound.

TU FAWNING
Tu Fawning is a Portland, Oregon collective of songsmiths and multi-instrumentalists founded by Joe Haege (31Knots, Menomena) and Corrina Repp. After releasing the Secession EP (Polyvinyl) in 2008, the group doubled in size when longtime collaborators Toussaint Perrault and Liza Rietz joined full time last year.
Their debut album Hearts on Hold will be out on City Slang early next year. Steeped in dark mystery, texture, and beauty that pours forth from an assortment of instruments including guitar, drums, piano, brass, and samples, Hearts on Hold is a polished, revealing record that perfectly complements Fall’s kaleidoscope-spectrum of leaves and crisp breezes.
Pitchfork on Hearts On Hold : “These songs are crammed with ideas and sounds, inventive and fluid as they bend and change shape.”

The Heebie Jeebies + James Owen Fender + support
@ The Lamp, Hull
Rotherham’s hot boy trio The Heebie Jeebies indulge in “Fruity Beefheart beats, calypso rhythms and west coast noise flex, caressed with a poetic social panorama”. Formed at Sheffield Institute Of Arts, the band imbue a colourful charm and style that embraces modern insecurities with an ‘end of the rainbow’ mentality. Their endearingly shambolic live show can’t disguise some seriously accomplished musicianship - self-taught they might be but these boys know their chops.

Very few bands can weather the on going changes in today's musical climates but New York's THE EROTICS are a breed unto themselves. Led by the notorious Mike Trash on vocals and guitar, the streamlined trio completed by bassist Billy Beer and drummer Johnny Riott proudly display the scars of a career in the underground scene that would make most so called rockers squirm in disbelief! The new album, "Today The Devil, Tomorrow The World", produced by Don Fury, is available now.
