Fluid Sol - Fluid Sol
Review by Jess
Fluid Sol consists of bassist Victor Broden, drummer Joakim Eckberg and guitarist and vocalist Mitch Malloy. Malloy has previously released records on his own, but is now releasing a debut album as the band 'Fluid Sol', and as well as singing and playing guitar, he has written all the songs and has produced the whole album!
The album starts off with 'Just Human', and is one of the best tracks on the CD. The head-banging music and gritty vocals falsely suggest that the rest of the album will sound similar, but as soon as the next track starts, all preconceptions you may have had about this band are taken away in an instant.
'I'm On Your Radio' is one of the catchiest pop-punk-esque songs I've heard in a long time, and I hear a lot here at Rock Pulse! This song will have you bopping your head and singing along to the chorus in no time.
'No Fear' is another catchy song with an infectious chorus, whereas 'Shelter' turns the whole album around yet again with its thoughtful lyrics and deliciously mellow yet powerful music.
'Down' is a ballad that showcases Mitch Malloy's vocal abilities in a way that the other tracks don't manage to achieve. This is one of my favourite tracks as it's so different to the other songs, and the melodies and lyrics are brilliantly poignant.
Other good tracks on the album are: 'Empty', the slightly dark 'I Want You', and 'There Was A Mountain'. The album ends with 'Fly'; another ballad that gives Malloy the chance to show off his vocal abilities.
One thing I like about this CD is that every track sounds like it could have been recorded by a completely different band. The amount of influences that can be heard in the music and the amount of music genres that are hinted at during the 12 tracks make the CD a pure joy to listen to. The album doesn't really have any 'bad tracks', and none of the songs are similar enough to blend together. If you're into energetic, catchy music, then you have to check out Fluid Sol!
