Ejector Seat EP
Review by Jon
Track Listing:
1. Attack! Attack! Attack!
2. To Be More Animal
3. Hopeless And Emotionless
Think Kaiser Chiefs. Kaiser Chiefs Kaiser Chiefs Kaiser Chiefs Kaiser Chiefs.
Actually, no, that’s a little unfair. What Derby’s very own Ejectorseat have done is ripped out the roots of the new wave of Britpop that have been planted by the likes of Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs, The Bravery, etc and put them onto a CD, and my god it works. If, however, you’re being run down by the Indie scene, these lads will do nothing but worsen your attitude, as this is 9 minutes of almost perfect textbook indie.
It takes the album roughly 7 seconds to become catchy. The riffs used may be repeated, but it is rather infectious, and you’ll be humming by the end of it. The music is taken right from the modern scene, but there is a hint of Suede about the vocals, which is easily heard in “Attack! Attack! Attack!”, which is also most of the words in the chorus, so it’s easy to pick up. “To Be More Animal” is almost a photocopy of “Everyday I Love You Less And Less”, and is the longest song on the album, at a whopping two minutes fifty-seven. Like the previous track, it is helped along in some style by the important synthesiser sounds. “Hopeless And Emotionless” is a wonderful follow-on, because when the chorus kicks in, it is almost like a date-back to the Blur days of the mid-90’s.
Anyone not fond of the current Indie sound will take pleasure in not listening to these, but for any Kaiser Chief or Franz Ferdinand fanatics, they will be an important addition to your record collection.
