Making good use of the classic power trio configuration that has proven so effective time and time again in the heavy music world, Hertfordshire newcomers Le Monnier make an accomplished racket, logistical limitations considered. Led by powerhouse frontwoman Alexandra Le Monnier, the band bring an intriguing mix of hard rock riffage, classical ambience and defiant, forthright yet elegant melody to bear on debut full length ‘Cynic Sister’, taking heed of a diverse pool of artists from groove metal titans Pantera to fellow female fronted alumni such as Flyleaf and Lacuna Coil, with a good deal more cohesion than such a description might suggest.

Armed with a powerful pair of lungs and with a pair of solid musicians behind her, namely classically trained guitarist and pianist Matt Keil and hard hitting drummer Terry Anderson, Alex leads the band through fourteen tracks of varying style and impact , maintaining a good level of interest throughout. Ultimately though, Le Monnier will (in my opinion) sink or swim on the strength of their live show... if they can translate the ballsy, no holds barred feel of their debut to a packed out, sweat drenched club somewhere, they’re in with a real shot at going places. Fans of the above artists, along with fellow UK bright young things The Dirty Youth and Symphony Cult, should give some serious thought to checking them out. If it’s potential that you’re looking for, then you’re in the right place.
