Rock On The Web

December 7th, 2003 - Kirst

This week at my school a debate arouse about the use of toy guns to young children. Do they encourage children to become violent in later life? Like fuck they do. Come on people, did people go out and buy a horse, use a sword and kill monkey-like creatures when they saw The Lord Of The Rings?

Now people are saying, the music you listen to can make you a killer... Take a bow, assholes; you’re laying the blame everywhere. So, I listen to Marilyn Manson and I go off to hang myself? I listen to Slipknot, and I go to the local farm, fuck a goat then disembowel it? I listen to anything like that; I’m a delinquent. If I listen to Britney Spears, I become a beautiful princess who marries a prince and gets to Number One? Not the fact that after washing away the Angel Image, I wear too much make-up, short skirts and parade Awards shows with Snakes around my neck? If I listen to 50 Cent, I become closer to my friends or people who I go round with, right? THEY aren’t encouraging gun crime at all, right? It’s the same as all rockers, punks, Goth’s out there who get spat at for wearing/doing what the hell they want to do?

OK, imagine all of us naked (no dirty thoughts here people!), who the hell would be able to tell the difference between what we did or what we listened to? Back to my original point. Bowling For Columbine. Amazing film, such a great point. People want to get excuses and lay down the blame for everyone except the real explanation.

Back onto the gun point. You’ve all played with a toy gun, maybe handled a replica or used a real one... But if your parents tell you that shooting someone is wrong (if they didn’t know that already) then there’s a less than 2% chance they’ll grow up to be a killer or use serious violence. The music is an escape from problems or fears or anger. Sing to Manson, or whatever and it helps. It isn’t encouraging anything. Manson is just doing what he wants to do, he dosen’t want a mass killing spree or suicidal deaths to occur... Distributors of toy-shops don’t brainwash the kids and say ‘’Pretend to shoot people, but remember it isn’t a game, you must kill all’’... Besides, aren’t knives offensive and dangerous as well?

These issues are all over the place; drugs... Sex... I mean, virginity’s a great thing but when you’re ready and you want to lose it, then no one can stop you. Besides, if you use protection, treat it properly and have respect for whoever you’re gonna have sex with, I don’t see a big problem. Yes I do if it’s a younger person, like 11, 12... But some 13 year olds are more mature than some 17 year olds!

Instead of doing things properly, people are just trying to pretend these things aren’t here, and making them seem wrong. Drugs yes, to an extent. Weed is a sensitive issue, but that’s a personal opinion thing, but honestly... I don’t see it a huge a problem as cocaine or heroin. Smoking... All these issues are everywhere! But people just think that their kids or friends will never even hear of this stuff, let alone have a sneaky cigarette round the corner. Isn’t it better to educate?

Hope I made sense, and sorry this is a little late, I was out, busy dismembering sheep then going to mass orgy parties.
