ARMY OF FRESHMEN

Interview by Gina via email on 25th April, 2004

So you have heard of them now, right? You read the review and you visited the site? GOOD! So now it's time to find out even more about Army of Freshmen. I asked vocalist Chris Jay to let everyone know whats going down! Here's what he had to say........

Who are you? Your band? And what are your strengths and weaknesses?

Deep questions off the bat! Damn. I am Chris. My band is The Army of Freshmen. My strengths are music, my weaknesses are push ups and girls who talk dirty.

Describe each of your band mates in one word?

Owen- talkative. Dan- professor. Aaron- sleepy. Mike- disgruntled. Kai- sweetpepper.

When did you decide you wanted to be in a band and why?

Blame it on Nirvana. It's been downhill for me ever since.

You have to pick one song to let someone who hasn't heard your music before hear, what track would it be and why?

"Get Um Up". It's classic AOF- catchy, keyboards, rap, all the stuff we usually do.

For people who haven't been to an AOF show, what can we expect it to be like?

FUN! Always a little different. Lots of tweaking and dancing. We put on a show. You know how a lot of bands say you need to see us live and it's like ok what was the big deal? Well... we're the exception.

The tracks from Casino Chips and Sunset Strips are from the new album 'Beg, borrow, steal'. Which track of your own on the split is your favourite and why?

Hmm. I guess GET UM UP cause it's doing so well in Japan. Hopefully it'll do the same in the UK.

All the bands on the split cd definitely have their own unique style, do you have any favourites? Have you met/ played shows with any of they bands before?

Split Habit are our close friends and I LOVE their stuff. "100 Dollar Guarantee" is one of my favorite songs, period. Suburban Legends are great guys.

In what ways do you think your music has progressed since your first album?

More mature- still fun but we're older so I think the high school experience stuff is gone like in "Adeline" and "Light in the Sky".

Tell us something about your band or someone in your band you think we dont know?

We're all dead broke!

The keyboards can definitely be seen as a staple instrument to your group and something you will be highly recognised by. How did the idea to have the keyboards in the group arise?

Well years ago Aaron and Dan played horns and it wasn't really working. Dan had been a great keyboard player and Aaron a great guitarist so we decided to switch it up- best decision we ever made.

Any friends of the Freshmen we should look out for in the music scene in future?

Good Question. A lot of bands we liked a lot have gotten big already so they don't need our help but Solemite, Split Habit, Nathaniel's Endeavors are three bands who are relatively unknown that I think could be huge.

Finally, any last words, comments you would like to share with the world?

The world? Well- stop having wars but since I don't think the world is going to read this we'll just settle with thanks to all for their support and we can't wait to get to the UK!
