Review by Rob S
Primarily taking their cues from the annals of seventies rock ‘n roll, Leeds newcomers Amorist set out into the musical world with debut single ‘What Makes You So Special?,’ a track that’s so retro (in a positive or negative sense depending on your personal taste) that it should by all rights come complete with a complementary leather jacket and synthetic mullet. There’s much room for improvement here, as is inevitably the case on debut releases, but with time these four chaps could carve out a real niche for themselves... it’s all contingent on how the band develops over the next few releases, and the quality of the all important live show. For now however, this is a real toe tapper, and I can imagine Amorist becoming regular additions to numerous classic rock stations in the near future. As the likes of The Answer have shown there’s still a definite appetite for this kind of bluesy rock in the wider community, so when it comes to the future of Amorist the rest, as they say, is up to them.
