Eighteen Visions, Wulfrun Hall, 17th March 2005
Review by Nikki
I saw these guys last year supporting Lostprophets and was blown away by them so my expectations were high for this gig. The venue was Wulfrun hall, Wolverhampton, The Civic's little sister; a nice small venue for the intimacy between the band and crowd. The crowd were a mixture of girls and boys, straight edge and the piss heads, the music lovers and the Mick lovers. The band stepped on stage looking as smart as ever with ties and waistcoats galore.
Eighteen Visions are another band which are labelled as “post hardcore/punk” so you can’t help compare them to friends Avenged Sevenfold. Songs from “Obsession” were obviously played such as “I let go” and “Waiting for the heavens”, but they threw in some golden oldies like “Vanity” and “ I don’t mind” for good measure. The crowd were also treated to the Guns n Roses classic “Paradise City”; it was a good effort and the crowd and band alike seemed to enjoy it, but in my opinion no band can pull off a Guns n Roses song other than the legends themselves. Eighteen Visions maintained their high-energy performance throughout, with James strutting around provocatively sending the girls into hot flushes.
Thankfully Eighteen Visions can not only pull off a great recording but equally, maybe even better, a great gig where you feel the raw energy. I admit I am biased, they well and truly won me over the first time I saw them, so I would definitely recommend this band; their live performances bring another level to their music, never faltering once. I’d catch them whilst you can though before they explode onto the scene even bigger than they are now.
